Took my first printmaking class at Western
Washington University in 1997. I enjoyed making posters for concerts
on campus, political posters for NORML,
and printing flyers for KUGS 89.3,
the college radio station where I volunteered as a Disc Jockey.
I moved to Portland in 1998. In 2000 I started an apprenticeship in
the fast paced business of commercial t-shirt printing. I had an awesome
mentor, Anthony Svelt, owner and operator of Svelt T-shirt Co. Unfortunately,
for me and the world, Tony passed on in 2003. He will be greatly missed.
I continued to print shirts for bands including Ghost
Motor, Sonic Death Monkey, Steel Stilletto and Micronesia, Unicorn
Rodeo, Jupiter Jones All-Stars.
In 2004, with the aid of a longtime friend and fellow screenprinter,
C. Chapman and I hashed out the
Do-It-Yourself approach to T-shirt printing, we launched DIYscreenprinting.com
and put together my first screen printing studio, in the basement
of the 5 St*r Boutique, to teach the finer points of DIY screen printing. |
